Latin Names: Eriobotrya japonica
Type: Tree
Origin: China but naturalized in southern part of US.
Edible: Fruit eaten plain or can make jam or wine. Seeds can be roasted for a coffee but some sources say it contains cyanide so it should be avoided.
--> Tastes great! Produced a few fruits early in the year. Big seeds so there is only a little edible portion.
Other uses: Wood is used to make rulers and practice swords (bizarre and cool use!). Leaves and seeds are used in Chinese medicine. Blossoms used to make perfume in the past.
Note: Leaves are leathery. Transplanted my tree in March 2020 so probably won't have fruit this year.
